TIPS
TIPS
- To achieve optimal searing and easy flipping of your food, it's important to preheat your Cast Iron Skillet before adding food. Use a minimal amount of fat and allow a few minutes for the meat or fish to develop a thin crust before attempting to flip it.
- The key to success lies in maintaining the proper temperature of your skillet and refraining from touching the food until it is ready. With practice, you can easily master these two elements and prepare delicious meals in no time.
- Aside from being excellent to use on the stove, the Cast Iron Skillet can also double as a baking dish in the oven. You can use it to prepare casseroles, lasagna, and even bake bread or sweets such as cinnamon rolls, crumbles, and pies.
- When nearing the end of the cooking time, turn off the stovetop approximately five minutes beforehand. Cast Iron has the unique ability to retain heat, allowing the skillet to remain hot enough to finish the cooking process.
Tips for the best seared meat:
- To get perfectly seared meat, remove it from the fridge 15 to 30 minutes before cooking so the meat comes to room temperature. This will ensure that it cooks more evenly and helps make the meat tender and juicy.
- By allowing the meat to come to room temperature before cooking, you can sear it perfectly without having to turn up the heat too high. This prevents the meat from getting burnt on the outside while still raw on the inside.
- Always remember to pat your meat dry before cooking to ensure the best sear. A dry surface allows for better browning and a crispy exterior.
- For most smaller and medium-sized cuts of meat (up to 180 g), start by searing both sides on medium-high heat. Then turn off the heat source and let the meat rest in the hot pan for 3 to 10 minutes, depending on its thickness.
- For larger cuts, use medium heat for initial searing to avoid uneven cooking.
Energy Saving Tips:
- To save energy and cook efficiently, use a hotplate or stovetop heat zone that matches the size of your cookware.
- Once you reach the desired temperature, adjust the heat to a lower temperature to prevent overheating and damage to your cookware.
- Cast iron works well for both slow cooking and high-temperature searing.
